Fire destroys high
speed computer network at Twente University
Management at
Twente University in the Netherlands are this evening counting the
costs after a fire destroyed one of Europe’s fastest computer networks.
The fire began this morning 8 o'clock in a section of the TW/RC-building,
which houses the vast majority of the University's high speed computer
servers and networking equipment, and caused the
network to completely break down.
"The part of the building that houses the computer facilities, is
considered lost," Management at the University said in a statement today.
It is believed damage from the fire could cost the University E10m
upwards.
However, work has started on repairing the network facilities and the
University is confident that the facilities will be completely repaired in
a matter of “several days.” |
